The three of us can not thank our local New Zealand host, Haemish Crawford, enough for his thoughtfulness and willingness to personally travel with us these last 3 days. Having him has a Godfather has been tremendous, and his attitude towards us and the POSNA traveling fellowship defines the experience that we have had thus far in Australasia. Each host and their colleagues have welcomed us without reservation and treated us in a manner befitting royalty. For this, we will always be indebted to them. To close the chapter on the South Island, we are including some photos of today's sunrise and the glacial milk of the Dart River within the Mount Aspiring National Park. After tonight's rest we will travel back to the North Island for a couple more academic sessions before heading to Hong Kong.

The natural beauty of Queenstown and the South Island of New Zealand is hard not to comment on and share with some aerial views from the plane. But, despite the potential outdoor activities that we could be doing, we are committed to the academics of the traveling fellowship. Here we are with the South Island Pediatric Orthopedic group sharing our lectures and learning some really innovative ways of treating scoliosis. We really appreciate them driving 2.5 hours up from Dunedin to participate in our education, even though its a Saturday they could be spending at home.

We have safely arrived in Auckland. We had a fantastic stay in Melbourne visiting the Royal Children's. Clearly the flagship of children's hospitals in Australasia. We had some excellent academic sessions and were able to visit in the operating theatre to get a feel for spine surgery Down Under. Our host Ian Torode even took us boating for the afternoon to finish off our trip to Australia. The flight to New Zealand was uneventful, but the morning academic session was great and poignant. This was then followed by a tour of the city that terminated with Amy and Eric jumping off a perfectly good building (the Skytower) in the middle of downtown. Crazy and yet exhilarating. Tomorrow we will spend time in clinic and the theatre at Starship and we are looking forward to it.

Sydney Harbour Vivid. Reminiscent of DisneyWorld, but on an even larger scale. Impressed by a dazzling light show using the harbour as a canvass, we were treated to an elegant dinner that consisted of kangaroo and beetroot, followed by various mains of Barramundi, lamb and eggplant. Desert was well worth the wait, and the company was second only to the stage set for dinner.
A beautiful day in Sydney. Dr David Little spent the entire day with us has we explored Manly Beach and took the adventure of the BridgeClimb, during which we hiked to the top of the 134 meter high Sydney Harbour Bridge (the equivalent of standing 56 stories above the harbour with nothing but the steel framework of the bridge to keep us safely in place). Fantastic views all around the city. As photoed above, we obviously saw many other iconic parts of the Harbour and there are plans to experience Sydney Vivid tonight, the annual light show that uses the building of the harbour as a canvass of art. We are very appreciative of the host cities and their generosity (please watch the short video below).

Our apologizes for not having posts the last couple days; there was a dearth of internet connectivity, but we are back on track. We had a fantastic time in Adelaide with our hosts Bruce Foster, Peter Cundy and Matt Hutchinson. Despite the fact that Winter starts in a few days, Australia has been providing beautiful scenery. We took a tour of Kangaroo Island with Dr Foster and had the opportunity to hold a Koala and joey Kangaroo, enjoyed magnificent vistas overlooking a bay with what appeared to be a well planned rainbow by our gracious host! The interactive academic sessions over the two days was a great collaboration between our groups that has fortified the relationship between us and the pedi-pods of Adelaide. We look forward to a similar experience in Sydney where we have arrived today.

Despite a few close calls we arrived safely in Perth Australia. We almost lost Amy in LA due to a misspelling of her name on her Australian visa (apparently, there is no space between the Mc and the Intosh). And there was a "small bit of smoke" on the plane has we crossed the Pacific. Basically it only affected the electronics to the passengers. They Australians all seemed very cheerful about it and we got to Brisbane safely. We want to send Melody a special thanks for the Economy Plus seats, those were clutch for the 24 hours worth of traveling these past 2 days (its strange math). More to come, but we are excited to start our adventure.
